What’s all the fuss about?

Last week, talking about IVF in the interview for the Italian magazine Panorama, Domenico Dolce said “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.” Both designers declared “No chemical children: life has a natural course, there are things that shouldn’t be modified.” These comments opened Pandora’s box with #BoycottDolceGabbana used by Sir Elton John, who has two children with his husband David Furnish through IVF, to express outrage on his Instagram account, calling Dolce & Gabbana’s thinking and fashion – “archaic”, and inviting people to boycott the label.

In response, Dolce & Gabbana told the press that there was never their intention to judge anyone: “We are about freedom. Anyone can make the choices they want.”, said Stefano Gabbana. He also used #Fascist directed to Elton John and called on fans to #BoycottEltonJohn.

The social media word war began.

According to social media search tool Topsy, Sir Elton John seems to be winning with #BoycottDolceGabbana used more than 35,000 times yesterday on Twitter against 1,600 #BoycottEltonJohn. Is it enough to put D&G brand into serious business trouble?

And, what’s your voice? Are you on Elton John’s team or do you root for Dolce & Gabbana? Is social media the modern vocal battlefield? How much and what is safe to say today? And finally, is IVF a blessing or intrusion into our natural life circle?

What is your fixation?
